a5c7b9f00b Sarah Ashburn (Bullock) is an uptight FBI agent and has her eye on a promotion. She has closed more case than anybody else in the FBI, but the thing is none of her co-workers like her because she knows pretty much everything. She is sent to Boston to uncover the identity of a ruthless drug lord (Michael McDonald) and is paired up with a foul-mouthed Boston Cop (McCarthy), but they don't get along at all! An uptight FBI Special Agent is paired with a foul-mouthed Boston cop to take down a ruthless drug lord. Some friends wanted to see this, so I went along for the company. It has an "R" rating, and any parent who brings a child younger than 13 to this is committing child abuse. The level of vulgarity, if that matters to the viewer, is stupendous. That said, it is a funny movie! It could even be better without the constant use of f…..k….g with almost everything Melissa McCarthy has to say. She's terrific, by the way. Sandra Bullock plays uptight very well and her gradual development of empathy is believable. The bond between the two females develops at a rapid pace, sometimes faster than would seem to be possible, but hey…movies only have a couple of hours to play out the story. We can sure see a series here - the usual movie industry habit with any successful movie, in which it is worked and reworked until it becomes totally boring - think Die Hard.

However, The Heat is funny - quite funny - unreal, of course, in terms of how law enforcement actually works, but in this case there's a lot that we'd actually LIKE to see happen - if only it weren't for laws themselves. I liked it, not enough to see it again, but I did like it. What a big disappointment!

After loving Melissa McCarthy's performance in "Identity Thief," I expected to at least like this a little.

But the plotting and script are so mundane in this off-putting slapstick/crime story hybrid that she is reduced to a tedious cartoon figure fast. Hearing her bark "asshole!" and denigrate the size of testicles gets old pretty quick.

In a couple of repugnant scenes, she is shown coldly and cynically dismissing men with whom she has slept once. I guess we are supposed to find it rib-tickling that anyone has ever slept with this fat woman and enjoyed it, and that a female can also be a cad.

I have never been a fan of Sandra Bullock but her tight-ass shtick is equally tiresome in this film. So she evolves from being prissy to knocking back shots and uttering swear words. Oh, hilarious!

Along the way we have to put up with all manner of ugly and offensive antics that don't even approach funny. I didn't expect to have to recoil from the screen in a Melissa McCarthy comedy, but I cringeda tied-up drug suspect got fatally shot, makeshift throat surgery was performed on a choking victim, and Bullock took a stab to the thigh.

Many talented performers are wasted in this movie. The handsome Mexican actor Demian BichirBullock's boss has little more to do than repeatedly squirm about her behavior. Michael Rapaport humiliates himselfMcCarthy's weakling brother. And is it Thomas F. Wilson who sinks to extraordinary depths in a lame attempt at albino humor?

I went to this with my 10-year-old and found the violence to be inappropriate for a kid his age. We were also deluged with gratuitous and repetitive vulgar language. (Please, would someone get the writer a thesaurus?)

I'll admit my son enjoyed this and found McCarthy to be funnier than in "Thief." But I couldn't wait for the credits to roll.

Sorry, Melissa, you're an impressive talent – but you have totally squandered my trust! The volatile chemistry between Ms. McCarthy and Ms. Bullock is something to behold, and carries The Heat through its lazy conception and slapdash execution. The US Blu-ray features two versions of the film. Next to the R-rated theatrical version, we have an unrated cut that doesn't offer a substantially better film. If you liked the theatrical version, you might enjoy some of the plot extension that the longer cut introduces since they add a little humor but they are not necessary to alter the film's overall impression. In total the Unrated Version runs approx. three minutes longer than the Theatrical Version.
